Deirdre West was born and raised amidst the natural beauty of Alaska. However, after years spent traveling the world, she has settled down as a permanent resident of Arizona.
Deirdre's formal fine arts training began with private lessons taught by classical realist painter Kamille Corry, whom she studied with for five years. Deirdre also studied at the prestigious Florence Academy of Art in Italy and at The Art Institute of Southern California. She has since won numerous juried art shows and had her work exhibited in museums and art galleries
Deirdre has also received a Bachelor of Science in Humanities degree and a Masters in Professional Writing from Northern Arizona University.
She recently has begun combining her passion for travel with her interest in writing. To date she has traveled to over 30 countries, hiring locals as models, and has since published two illustrated travel memoirs, Balanced Between Shadow and Light: A Painter's Journey, about a solo painting trip she took to Mexico and Painting a Visible Translation: An Artist's Journey from Italy to Morocco. She has also published a collection of art and poetry, Words Woven Through Paint.
